10 Great 'Hang Out" Movies

8. Ocean's Eleven

Ocean's Eleven isn't just a hang out movie for the audience, it's a hang out movie for its all star cast. Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's films have always essentially been "vacations" for its actors. And while sometimes the results are a little too self conscious, as in Ocean's Twelve, with this first film, Soderbergh and the cast nailed the balance between them having fun, and allowing us to have fun as well. Like all good heist movies, it's main pleasure comes from seeing how the crew comes together, and what their particular skillsets are. Adding to the excitement is seeing George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon headline the crew- but the supporting cast can't be undersold either. Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Don Cheadle and the late Bernie Mac provide most of the big laughs in the film. And of course, the veterans Carl Reiner and Elliot Gould are wonderful here as well. It is precisely their appeal that made the two sequels an enjoyable experience, even despite the alarming drop in quality from the first film - particularly in the first sequel.
