10 Great Horror Movies With Multiple Plot Twists
9. Would You Rather
2012's Would You Rather provides a superb mixture of twists, set against the backdrop of a macabrely disturbing plot. While exhibiting many of the tropes one would associate with a horror crap-fest, David Guy Levy's picture is a relentlessly thrilling watch - unless one is of the squeamish variety.
The first and obvious bombshell is that the "game" set up for various desperate individuals to win cash from a maniacal billionaire may have originally been concocted by Vlad the Impaler. It's still Would You Rather, but would you rather be stabbed with an ice pick or slice open your own eyeball with a razor blade? Protagonist Iris finds herself amongst these nightmarish surroundings attempting to finance an organ transplant for her sick brother.
The movie's twists are entrenched within the character's choices across the course of the contest as they consistently buck the trend of what the audience expects from them. Viewers are introduced to Iris as a wide eyed, moralistic character, making it all the more shocking when she guns down a fellow contestant to ultimately win the Hadean contest. Factor in the soul-destroying murder of the party's apparent savior - delivered in unashamedly jump scare fashion - and it's enough to make one's head spin.
Appropriately, the film saves its abhorrent pièce de résistance for a desolating final discovery. Iris returns home only to find her brother's corpse, having committed suicide to release her from her duty of care.
