10 Great Horror Movies With Multiple Plot Twists

8. The Cabin In The Woods

As Dana and Marty share a joint, awaiting the impending end of the world in the climactic sequence to 2010's The Cabin in the Woods, one can entirely sympathize. Considering the sheer amount of narrative U-turns the film's plot has taken over the course of 95 insane minutes, choosing to lose one's self in a haze of cannabis smoke seems to be an entirely rational decision.

The Cabin in the Woods is an absolutely maniacal, twist-loaded state of affairs - in the best way possible. The film's initial reveal is that the cabin where five friends gather for a weekend away is actually being controlled by a mysterious laboratory. Things only proceed to get more ludicrously deranged as swathes of monstrous beings are released across the course of the film.

Case in point, the movie somehow features reincarnated zombies and a merman without wildly diverging from the certifiably insane plot line. Matters culminate with the revelation of an ancient ritualistic organization that facilitate human sacrifice in order to appease an apocalyptic set of malevolent entities and prevent them from destroying the world, with the five friends unveiled as carefully selected candidates due to their personalities. This was supposed to be a nice weekend away!

The Cabin in the Woods is a truly bizarre picture. It shouldn't work on paper, but the effortless amalgamation of laugh-out-loud instances of silliness, some legitimately scary moments and the movie's unashamedly over-the-top vibe combine to produce one of the finest horror outings of the 2010's.
