10 Great Horror Movies You Definitely Missed In 2022
7. The Sadness
Before you get all angry and stabby with us, we know.
We know that Taiwanese-Canadian horror movie The Sadness actually premiered in 2021. However, it only became available worldwide via Shudder in May 2022.
So there.
Now we've got that out of the way, let's talk about one of the best body horrors of the entire year.
Taking a heavy dose of inspiration from 28 Days Later, The Sadness takes place in a world where the Alvin virus is running riot.
Instead of turning people into singing chipmunks, the virus unlocks parts of the infected's brain linked to rage and aggression. To be honest, that doesn't sound as bad the chipmunk thing.
What sets this stipulation apart from other zombie or zombie-adjacent movies is that the carriers are fully aware of the hideous acts of violence they are committing. The film likens the actions to blinking - completely natural and impossible to stop.
This adds a whole bunch of layers to the typical end of the world virus story and those layers are all sick.
Seriously, some properly twisted stuff goes down in this film. Watch it at your own peril.
