10 Great Improvised MCU Moments
6. "Why Is Gamora?" - Avengers: Infinity War
If the previous entry was a "blink and you'll miss it" moment, this next one is anything but.
Infinity War's Avengers vs. Guardians face-off was the crossover Marvel fans had been dreaming of since the movie was announced, but few predicted that Drax would provide the encounter's highlight.
After a swift fight involving blaster fire, web-fluid and magic capes (you know, typical superhero shenanigans) the two groups question each other over Gamora's status - "Where is Gamora?" "Who is Gamora?" and, of course, "Why is Gamora?"
As well as being a delightful example of interrogative pronoun use, the exchange also highlights Drax actor Dave Bautista's comedic chops. "Why is Gamora?" was invented on the spot by the actor (hence Benedict Cumberbatch's flicker of confusion), and Drax's bellicose bellow provided a perfect comic counterpoint to the otherwise tense scene.
Infinity War's screenwriters even admitted as much, with wrtier Christpoher Markus acknowledging Bautista's line showed that the actor was "very good at [his] job".
Of course, improv doesn't always have to be funny, as the next two entries will show...
