10 Great Midnight Movies You Need To Watch
4. The Evil Dead
If there is one horror film made for the midnight movie circuit, it’s Sam Raimi’s brilliantly over-the-top gore fest, The Evil Dead. With the help of friend/actor Bruce Campbell as Ash, Raimi made a film that not only had people running to late night screenings, but also usher in a new era of filmmakers.
Made on a shoestring budget in 1981, The Evil Dead blended horror and comedy to perfection. It’s thanks to this blend of dark humour and genuine chills that Raimi soon established himself as the new master of horror, and in turn changed the horror genre for good.
It gained a cult status thanks to the continuous reshowing’s of it across the world, earning hugely positive reviews at the same time. Its popularity grew further when it was released on home video. Teens across the world flocked to the shops to buy a copy of the film that was once banned in several countries.
