2. Tyler Durden - Fight Club
I know a lot of you are probably shocked at Tyler's appearance at this position, and most likely coined the enigmatic soap salesman as top spot in this list. While I did personally find it a close competition, I did want to shake the status quo a bit too. Brad Pitt plays Tyler Durden in Fight Club (1999). An exciting and unpredictable anarchistic thrill-seeker who plays opposition to Edward Norton's dull and emasculated, nameless narrator. At first it feels like some sort of statement about being freed from the brainwashing in society, not to be downtrodden by consumerism. A small underground eponymous club based upon the idea of pleasure by pain soon turns into an political movement to upturn society. However it soon becomes evident that Tyler Durden is not our nameless protagonist's friend, but actually an alter-ego adopted by his frail psyche in a quest to adopt some personality. Tyler Durden is conquered by Edward Norton's character (much to the chagrin of the audience) as it suggests the two become one and form a functioning human being. Although, it's far too late and Tyler's plan works and his message of anarchy is still sent. A deep, well portrayed character that's endlessly entertaining. Now I wonder who could possibly top that...
