10 Great Movie Ideas Let Down By Their Budget
7. The Predator
Though absolutely nobody was expecting a film on par with the Arnold Schwarzenegger led alien battle of one-upmanship we got in the original Predator, 2018's The Predator looked to be heading back to that same world of rated R suspense filled gore that made the first film so iconic.
Shane Black - an original Predator cast member - was on board to direct (so it may even be funny, right?) and the project had been given double the budget of the last entry in the series (going from Predators $40 million to $88 million) yet with that money came the unpredictable beast of ambition.
Instead of focusing on what made the original story so compelling - a single alien hunting down some of our planet's deadliest inhabitants - Black and Co opted to cram the story full of unnecessary jokes, plot points and some dreadful CGI.
Whenever the film threatened to become interesting and characters were forced to think on their feet to survive, they were met by either the poorly rendered Preda-dogs or another needless ploy to set up a bigger universe.
With a smaller nest of money to draw from, this film could have utilised the brilliant cast and decent plot of a predator being forced to join sides with the humans in order to do away with a bigger, badder Predator. Yet, instead we got a film that attempted to be bigger than it needed to be.
This is what happens when more money opens a few too many doors.
