10 Great Movie Sequels (That Nobody Saw)

3. Doctor Sleep

Fans were dubious when Stephen King first announced he'd be writing a follow-up novel to his seminal favourite The Shining. So you can only imagine the response when it was announced that it too was getting a film adaptation that would also serve as a sequel to Stanley Kubrick's legendary adaptation of King's book.

And yet despite that immense pressure, Doctor Sleep somehow manages the impossible, by being a completely respectful continuation of both the book and film. It even goes so far as to bring in some of the more out-there ideas from King's original novel that Kubrick discarded.

Telling a more personal and intimate story, complete with a cult of psychic vampires and thrilling mind-bending psychic battles, Doctor Sleep has something for everyone, but not everyone was interested.

Sadly due to a whole host of reasons, Doctor Sleep didn't make an impact at the box-office. Which is a shame because it's a brilliant film that does justice to its source material. The rare sequel that strives for more and knocks it out of the park.

Destined to go down as a cult favourite of recent times, Doctor Sleep is one to add to your watch-list immediately.
