10 Great Movie Sequels (That Nobody Saw)

2. Bladerunner: 2049

The idea of a Bladerunner sequel had been floated around for quite some time, much to the excitement and chagrin of fans. For years the project sat dormant until visionary director Denis Villeneuve signed on to the project and the hype machine began turning once more.

Excitement was high and an impressive run of attention-grabbing trailers got everyone talking, surely this would be the sequel to defy all the rules and be a massive hit?

With heavy hearts, we have to report that wasn't the case.

Despite an incredible cast, deeply moving screenplay and some of the most visually stunning sequences ever put to film, this sequel didn't grab the attention of the masses and was considered a box-office failure.

Much like the aforementioned Doctor Sleep, the success of Bladerunner 2049 was contingent on moviegoers having enough of an interest in the original film to shell out their hard-earned cash for a sequel. Yes, Bladerunner is a classic and revered as one of the best films ever made, but its impact and influence is lost on the current generation, meaning that for many this film was nothing but a mere curiosity.

For us fans however, we were gifted a truly beautiful film.
