10 Great Movies With 100% Rotten Tomatoes Ratings You Probably Missed

2. The Last Picture Show

It's not uncommon for American movies to glamorise life in the States and paint a picture of a country of affluence and high living standards. Less common are movies which seek to portay the country in a state of decline, and Peter Bogdanovich's The Last Picture Show is one such film which shows life in America warts and all. With an all-star cast including Jeff Bridges, Cybil Shepherd, Ellen Burstyn and Randy Quaid, The Last Picture Show offers a broad examination of a small Texan town on the decline in post-war America, where students enter into affairs with their teachers and stir up a storm with their extravagant parties and the cinema - an emblem of American progressiveness - prepares to close down. A tragic coming-of-age tale, The Last Picture Show has earned its place in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress, but modern audiences are perhaps less likely to have come across this classic, and if you haven't seen it you should take the time to get hold of a copy and see for yourself what makes it so memorable.
