Run Time: 84 minutes If youre into the indie scene then theres a pretty good chance youve seen Pi, Darren Aronofskys first directed feature. Before Requiem For A Dream, Aronofsky had a budget of only $60,000 dollars to produce his bizarre and intelligent psychological thriller that ended up jumpstarting his famed career. Simply put, the film is mind-expanding while also gut-wrenching. The black and white footage plus the slick soundtrack adds to the intensity of the film as we experience the main characters descent into madness. Whenever hes in pain, were in pain. Its a bit difficult to explain and may sound unappealing to some, but its certainly an unforgettable cinema experience. Pi was praised by critics and proved to be a huge financial success despite only a limited theatrical release. Even if youre not into the art-house indie scene, its at least worth checking out for the sake and appreciation of great cinema that didnt cost anything to make. And it definitely wont take much time out of your day.
