10 Great Movies About Hollywood
7. Ed Wood (1994)
Legendary filmmaker Ed Wood made a name for himself thanks to his many low budget sci-fi and horror flicks in the 1950s and 60s, including Plan 9 from Outer Space and The Sinister Urge. He would go on to make number of pornographic films and write over eighty horror and sex novels.
He was voted Worst Director of All Time in 1980 at the Golden Turkey Awards, and has since slipped into Hollywood legend as one of its most bizarre and intriguing figures.
With a story like that, it's hard to image anyone other than Tim Burton bringing him to life on screen. With Johnny Depp portraying the director in one of his finest roles, Ed Wood proved to be a rousing success.
Detailing Wood's journey from Hollywood outcast to creator of some of cinema's most peculiar and terrible movies, the film is shot in black and white and co-stars Martin Landau, Bill Murray, Sarah Jessica Parker and Patricia Arquette, who are all hilarious and compelling visions of the people who helped Wood make his name.
Funny, bittersweet, dark and endearing, Ed Wood is ironically the film the infamous director is most likely to be remembered for, but since it's such a fun and well-made movie, it's safe to say there are worse ways to be immortalised.
