American Movie is a 1999 documentary about Mark Borchardt, a struggling 30 something divorced father of 3 who still lives with his parents. Mark still holds onto the dream of making a great American film and will put every effort possible to achieve his goal. What unfolds over the course of a few years in this documentary is an entertaining, hilarious and genuinely touching look at how one person's passion can pass over even with the toughest obstacles in front of him. From Mark stealing his Mom away from her grocery errands to help him film, to the hilarious scene of him trying to record a voice over with his Uncle, this doc shows us what it's like to make a "homegrown" American movie.
