10 Great Movies Almost Ruined By Meddling Hollywood Executives

1. "Call It Spaceman From Pluto" - Back To The Future (1985)

Back to the FutureBack to the Future is one of the most popular movies of all-time - a true cinematic gem that transcends its time, and appeals to audiences of all ages. Simply put, it's a genuine classic. And at least part of that success comes down to its brilliantly simple (and at first, head-scratching) title. Though Back to the Future seems like an obviously great title (and surely one you wouldn't want to waste), it was almost subjected to a title change so hellish that - should it have been used - the entire picture would have likely flopped. Yes, one particularly powerful Hollywood executive over at Universal, Sid Sheinberg, suggested that the title be changed to the tragically awful Spaceman From Pluto. Convinced that it would mean box-office death, who else but producer Steven Spielberg stepped in to - one again - save the day. Upon receiving Sheinberg's new title, he sent back a memo that said:
"Thanks for the joke memo, guys: it's the funniest thing ever. We're still laughing about it."
According to those close to the production, Sheinberg was so embarrassed that he never mentioned it again and Back to the Future was saved, proving that, yes, Steven Spielberg is the greatest man alive, and, yes, we owe him for each and every one of our greatest childhood memories. Thanks, Steven - you're the man. Can you think of any other great movies that were almost ruined by meddling Hollywood types? Let us know in the comments section below.
