6. "Set It In Nazi Germany Instead" - Pan's Labyrinth (2006)
Apparently Hollywood loves to try and ruin things written and directed by poor old Guillermo del Toro, because his 2006 masterpiece
Pan's Labyrinth was also almost subjected to a number of changes that would have surely changed it for the worst. Before he could even get started making his Spanish Civil War-set fantasy epic, Hollywood executives tried to convince him to change the setting to Nazi Germany instead. Once again, del Toro was able to stick to his massive guns and convince them otherwise, though it took a lot of time and effort. Though it's arguable that the film still might've worked to some degree in a different time and place,
Pan's Labyrinth is entirely special because of its Spanish Civil War location and time-frame: it's hard to seriously imagine it being set anywhere else.
