10 Great Movies It’s Cool To Hate
3. Interstellar
Clunky, silly, overly complicated, sentimental
hogwash. Those are just a few of the less than pleasant things detractors have
had to say of Christopher Nolan’s 2014 sci-fi epic Interstellar alongside such
critiques as it’s lack of scientific accuracy (it’s a sci-fi fantasy not a documentary,
people) or Nolan’s daring to mix science fiction and love (have a heart, for
god’s sake).
Come to think of it, the Interstellar haters are part of a wider backlash against Nolan himself. Once popular Nolan films like The Dark Knight trilogy and Inception have too gotten a lot of flack after their initial praise. It seems like maybe Nolan’s transition from the indie fringe to Hollywood mainstream or the fact he’s able to make films that are both thought-provoking and entertaining, commercially successful vehicles irks people somewhat.
But back to Interstellar. It’s a beautiful film and if you can suspend your disbelief long enough, it’s really not that complicated or unbelievable. And who’s to say that love isn’t the fifth dimension, you cynical bastards?
