10 Great Movies Starring The Brooklyn Nine-Nine Cast
1. Palm Springs
The Groundhog Day formula has been done to death by this point, but very few films have done so as well as Palm Springs. This delightful sci fi rom com sees two lost souls trapped at a wedding day which ceaselessly repeats itself. While most savvy film goers are inured to the time loop gimmick, Palm Springs uses it better than most to explore loneliness and regret.
Andy Samberg and Christina Miliotti play a plus one and the bride’s sister respectively. He’s been stuck at this wedding for an untold number of days by this point, while she gets herself caught on repeat early in the plot.
From there two two embark on the hijinks one would in such a situation, while developing a bond, but their divergent outlooks on their situation eventually lead to trouble.
It’s simultaneously original and slightly formulaic, but the brilliant pacing and enviable chemistry between the two leads (with the always-welcome J.K Simmons in a supporting role) makes this a total crowd pleaser and one of the freshest rom coms in recent memory. A dynamite indie which proves Samberg’s leading man credentials.
