10 Great Movies Starring The Brooklyn Nine-Nine Cast
5. Sorry To Bother You
When it comes to Boots Riley’s satirical debut, the less you know going in the better. In brief, the film sees Lakeith Stanfield’s telemarketer realise customers are more receptive when he adopts a “white voice”, and from there, things pretty much go haywire.
The stacked cast includes the always great Stanfield, Tessa Thompson, Danny Glover, and a career best Arnie Hammer. Driving the plot, though, is Terry Crews as Stanfield’s Uncle Sergio who drives the plot. He’s behind on mortgage payments and is on the brink of surrendering to Worry-Free, a dystopian service offering down on their luck folks the opportunity to essentially sell themselves into slavery.
It’s a departure for Crews, who still attacks the role with his endless verve and energy, but plays far more hopeless a figure than you’d expect from a performer of his stature and charisma. It’s a relatively minor role, but Riley gives the comedy veteran plenty of room to strut his stuff.
Sorry To Bother You is a wild film, messy but mesmerising, that must be seen to be believed.
