10 Great Movies Starring The How I Met Your Mother Cast

6. Harold And Kumar Go To White Castle (2004) - Neil Patrick Harris

A year before he appeared on How I Met Your Mother and became the show's true stand-out star, Neil Patrick Harris starred as a fictionalised version of himself in the hysterical stoner comedy Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle.

The film follows Harold and Kumar (played by HIMYM guest stars John Cho and Kal Penn, respectively) as they get high and decide to journey to White Castle to get some food. Along the way, the pair get attacked by a raccoon, Kumar saves a patient at the local hospital, they get into a car crash, and then bump into Neil Patrick Harris, who is high as a kite on ecstasy.

Both Cho and Penn are absolutely hilarious in the title roles, but Harris steals the show as a narcissistic, sleazy, hooker-obsessed version of himself. He helps elevate the film to greatness, stopping it from acting like a stereotypical stoner comedy and shedding his innocent Doogie Howser MD image in one fell swoop.

He reprised the role in the sequels Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay and A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas, both of which deserve a watch after you've seen the trios White Castle escapades.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
