2. Avatar Made 3D Cool Again; Is Responsible For Increased Ticket Prices & Countless Dark, Blurry Movies
After several ailing attempts throughout cinematic history to make it relevant, Avatar was the movie that finally made 3D cool in the eyes of the movie-going public. Here was a film that didn't strive to have things flying out in the faces of audiences, but instead used 3D as a tool for immersion - instead of making audiences feel less like they were in a movie, James Cameron set out to have them feeling like they were right inside it.
Even now the achievement stands tall: Gravity aside, Avatar is still probably the best and most accomplished 3D film ever. That said, there's no denying the fact that Avatar brought 3D back into mainstream cinema... and then some. Once 3D's reputation had been restored by Cameron's film, studios decided that it was time to give it another whirl: ever since, we've been plagued with mostly unnecessary additions of 3D to every major Hollywood blockbuster.
In most of these cases, the films were shot in 2D and converted in post-production. Which means dull, blurry, darkened images... and for what? Not to mention that we're all paying more money to see our films in lesser quality.
