10 Great Movies That Inadvertently Ruined Cinema

1. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Parts I & II Means That Other Movies Are Being Unnecessarily Chopped In Half

Warner Bros.

Viewed as a singular package, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows might well be the most accomplished of the - count 'em - eight Harry Potter films in existence, what with its resonant emotional storyline, groundbreaking special effects and truly epic finale.

When Warner Bros. realised that it might be possible to make another billion dollars or whatever if they split their last Harry Potter movie into two films instead of one (genius!), though, they accidently inspired a regrettable trend that has gone on to influence other YA book to movie adaptations for the worst.

Which is to say, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows never needed to be split into two parts in the first place; the book could have easily been compressed into a tight three-hour movie, but obviously fearful that their most profitable franchise's time was almost up, the studio opted for other measures.

The problem with this, of course, is that movie-goers are now having to fork out twice as much to see part two of a story that needed only one part. You could argue the final Potter book needed two movies, given how much is in there, but Twilight's fourth book didn't need to be split, and neither did The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. Divergent most recently tried and massively failed, which hopefully puts an end to this particular trend.
