Another hugely successful mainstream Hollywood actor who has earned a reputation over the years for his politically outspoken views in Tim Robbins - particularly during his marriage to Susan Sarandon the couple were noted for their political activism and campaigning on a wide variety of issues. Whereas Warren Beatty opted to play a democratic senator in Bulworth - a role which fell closer to his own political views - for Bob Roberts Robbins takes on a right wing aspiring senator with a penchant for folk music. In this sense, the film perhaps bears closer resemblance to mockumentaries such as A Mighty Wind than it does a straight political satire. The manufactured nature of the political image is lambasted in hilarious style and Bob Roberts remains one of Tim Robbins's best movies to date - although that said, there's little he's done since that has even come close to being as on-point.
