7. Bulworth
Warren Beatty is well known for being vocal in his attitudes towards politics, particularly his left-leaning sensibilities, and perhaps nowhere was this more evident than in his epic movie Reds, which centred around a journalist covering the Russian Revolution and picked up a raft of awards including and Academy Award for Best Picture. With his more recent - and last great - film Bulworth, Beatty moved to the present day to tell the story of the titular senator (played by himself) who, after going through a nervous breakdown, decides to tell the truth. Media and political hypocrisy are lambasted with conviction, while race politics are given the kind of rigorous exposure rarely seen in Hollywood movies. Despite the controversy it received at the time of its release, Bulworth inspired at least one major politician - in 2013, the New York Times quoted President Obama as saying that he "talked longingly of 'going Bulworth'".
