10 Great Movies With Terrible CGI
7. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Star Wars fanatics were so psyched to see Darth Vader in Rogue One, they never considered the possibility the prequel would contain other iconic figures from the beloved franchise. So, when Moff Tarkin revealed himself, viewers were blown away.
No one expected to see the architect of the Death Star since the actor portraying him, Peter Cushing, was suffering from a severe case of being dead for 22 years. But thanks to the wonders of CGI and motion-capture, the VFX efforts resurrected the legendary British actor, allowing him to portray his most famous role.
But with the benefit of hindsight, it seems fans originally watched this scene with rose-tinted glasses. Viewers got so caught up on seeing the deceased actor on the big screen again, they didn't realise the special effects aren't as mesmerising as they initially thought. Although Tarkin's facial ticks and voice is spot-on, his mouth is... weird. Not only does it move unnaturally, his lips don't move in accordance with his voice, making him look like he's being dubbed.
You have to commend the visual crew for pushing the effects as far as they could, but the scenes with Tarkin proved the technology isn't quite there yet.
