10 Great Music Videos That Would Make Even Better Films

4. Beastie Boys - Sabotage

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5rRZdiu1UE Another music video masterpiece from Spike Jonze. This video is a parody/homage to cop detectives shows of the 70€™s such as Starsky and Hutch and Hawaii Five-O. It begins with a shot copied from The Naked Gun, a close-up of the red siren on the police car, and this immediately foregrounds the humour which is so prevalent in this video. The detectives, played by the Beastie Boys are the stereotypical cops you associate with 1970€™s America, all sporting oversized aviator glasses, tremendous moustaches, and an attitude of resplendent litigiousness. They engage in everyday policeman activities such as tackling people into boxes, sliding over car bonnets and eating doughnuts. A feature length film of this would be very entertaining indeed; you can already imagine the comical dialogue and the witty one-liners in the screenplay. Like the recent Black Dynamite was an homage to the Blaxploitation movies of 70€™s cinema, perhaps there is a room at the box office for a film to pay tribute to the classic cop programmes which also define that era.
