10 Great Performances In Otherwise TERRIBLE Horror Movies

Often regarded as the biggest stinker in a franchise that's positively full of them, 1995's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation is a film that truly needs to be seen to believed. A confused, sloppily executed, mess of a film that can't decide if it wants to play it straight or stand apart as a parody of the series as a whole.

Whilst the wailing, cross-dressing Leatherface and somewhat glossed-over 'secret society of murderers' subplot really stand out for their sheer what-the-f*ckery, it's the early-career roles of both Renée Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey that people always think of when this load of old tripe gets brought up in conversation.

Zellweger does wonders with the little material she's given, but it's McConaughey who really knocks it out of the park. Long before the Mcconaissance enriched modern cinema for the better, McCougnahey gave perhaps the most deranged and high-energy performance of his career, culminating in some of the finest scenery-chewing we've ever seen.

Now you could argue whether or not this constitutes a great performance, but there's no denying that every time he storms on to the screen, this film threatens to become entertaining - even if only for a few fleeting moments.
