10 Great Performances That Were Overshadowed By Their Co-Stars

2. Andrew Garfield - The Social Network

Overshadowed By: Jesse Eisenberg Jesse Eisenberg received a well-earned Oscar nomination for his performance in David Fincher's surprisingly brilliant and gripping movie about the founding of Facebook - he played cold, calculating computer genius Mark Zuckerberg, of course, and that's the performance that everyone went home talking about, saying things like: "Oh, maybe he's not a second rate Michael Cera after all." Much credit - also due, mind - was given to Armie Hammer, too, who played the identical twins who rally against Zuckerberg and sue him for rights to the company. But it was British actor Andrew Garfield who might have put in the best performance in the whole movie. As Zuckerberg's wronged friend and co-founder Eduardo Saverin, whose plight gives the movie its moral edge, Garfield is mesmerising, poised as the movie's closest thing to a "hero," and the one character who genuinely seems to have more than one emotion. The scene where he breaks down - "You better lawyer up asshole, because I'm not coming back for 30%... I'm coming back for everything!" - is also the movie's best and most heartbreaking scene.
