10 Great Performances That Were Overshadowed By Their Co-Stars

1. Aaron Eckhart - The Dark Knight

Overshadowed By: Heath Ledger The one thing on near enough everybody's mind having just sat down to The Dark Knight wasn't "great cinematography" or "awesome set-pieces," but was basically: "Heath Ledger - MY GOD... did we just witness one of the greatest movie performances of all time there?" Yes, Ledger literally left people speechless when he exploded all over the screen with an unexpected, creepy and frankly hilarious portrayal of Batman's greatest nemesis - so much so, that people failed to notice that there was another rather unexpected and expertly-honed performance going on. That's right: had Aaron Eckhart's Harvey Dent been a part of another movie - one where Two-Face had been the only villain, perhaps - we might have been singing him similar praises. You can see the actor is totally and utterly committed to his role at every moment... even when his face is destroyed and he looks like a walking nightmare, Eckhart lets us feel Harvey's pain, bitterness and anger. Simply put, Heath Ledger left no room for another "star" to shine in The Dark Knight - rightly so, even - but Eckhart was also noticeably transformative and brilliant, too. Like this article?
