10 Great Sci-Fi Films Ruined By Terrible Endings

7. The Last Jedi - The Force Projection

The Last Jedi cannot be denied as a film that took risks. It defied expectations; featured a great expansion of the galaxies’ lore; and became one of the most divisive films of the last ten years. Yet where the film lost many of its fans, was its disappointing confrontation between the enraged Kylo Ren and the reclusive Luke Skywalker.

A single man valiantly walks towards the towering AT-ATs, as the remaining few of the resistance seem out of options. The music and suspense build, as the legendary Jedi Master, Luke Skywalker has finally returned to save the day. It’s an excellent moment that could have turned the tides of the unadulterated outcry that the film caused.

Instead of an epic fight however, audience are treated to the “twist” that Luke has been force projecting himself from atop his perch back on planet, Ahch-To, and was simply stalling. With Luke then fading away to be one with the force, it had to be wondered why director Rian Johnson couldn’t have had Luke actually show up to bring a satisfying conclusion to both the film and the iconic character, that it deserved.
