10 Great Sci-Fi Films Ruined By Terrible Endings
5. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - The Neo-Jurassic Age
The fifth Jurassic film started things with a bang in its excellently explosive and volcanic first half. After saving a boatload of dinosaurs from the volcanic Isla Nublar, raptor-trainer Owen and now dino-activist Claire find themselves in the villainous Lockwood estate.
While its second half is more reminiscent of Alien, in the most blockbuster-y way possible, its leanings into sci-fi routes elevate the film further from the first in the World sequels. Evil dinosaur auctions; human clones; and an even more modified “Indoraptor”. The film is ridiculous in the best kind of ways, but its final moments manage to leave a stale taste in the mouth.
The last of the dinosaurs rounded up, suffocating due to a leaking gas pipe, Owen and Claire choose extinction once again – fearing outsiders’ intentions and an ever-increasing body count. Yet the cloned Maisie, releases them on the count of their similar origins. With the few dozen dinosaurs running off into the horizon, audiences were monologued, courtesy of Dr. Ian Malcolm, into a new age where humans and dinosaurs must co-exist.
While the potential moving forward is excitable, the few dozen dinosaurs felt too small to warrant an over-dramatically announced new age and veering on a sly wink and a nod to the now relevant again Jurassic World title.
