10 Great Sci-Fi Movies Ruined By One Character

1. The Fifth Element - Ruby Rhod

The Fifth Element is Luc Besson's 1997's sci-fi action adventure about Bruce Willis trying to collect some magical rocks that will save the Earth from Gary Oldman.

It's better than it sounds.

Why oh why then does a film like this need a sequence where a talk show host - played by Chris Tucker doing a Prince impression - walks down a corridor and babbles for two uninterrupted minutes?

Ruby Rhod is a popular media personality in the futuristic world of The Fifth Element who teams up with Willis' character Korben Dallas to stop an alien enemy called "the great evil".

Wow, real original guys.

Rhod is the ultimate diva, a flamboyant, over-the-top showman who wants all eyes to be on him. He speaks through a vocoded microphone, making him sound like a cross between a Speak & Spell and Alvin and the Chipmunks.

In short, he's really annoying, which would be bad enough if he were only in one scene. But he sticks around for the entire rest of the film, irritating us with his mere presence.

It might be a cult classic today, but The Fifth Element was very nearly ruined by this one overly exuberant performance.
