Another interesting scenario in the Superman mythos details him hallucinating a scenario where Krypton survived, with an adult Kal-El that was never sent to Earth, and instead had a relatively normal life on his birth planet.
This story is told in sublime form by legendary writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons, and is considered to be a seminal Superman story.
The comic is relatively light on bombastic action and diverse settings, as it mostly takes place in the Fortress of Solitude and a small section of the imagined Krypton. Similarly, it only features a few heroes and the villain Mongul, but it's so well crafted you wouldn't really notice much of this.
It also gives the Man of Steel a perfect emotional arc, as he gets to spend a brief but touching moment on Krypton where he is a normal man with a family -courtesy of the hypnotic Black Mercy plant.
Moore is infamous for disliking adaptations of his work, so DCEU filmmakers may need to tread lightly as they bring this story to life. However, with the right cast as well as respect for the comic's spirit, the creative team may craft a unique and emotionally driven look into Superman lore.
