Snowpiercer meets World War Z in 2016's electrifying Train to Busan.

The acclaimed zombie-action flick is yet another masterful entry to come out of Korean cinema in recent years, a nail-biting film whose plot mimics the trajectory of the high-speed locomotive that it takes place on. The manner in which Train to Busan grabs its viewers attention is utterly relentless, mirroring the rabid nature of the film's undead antagonists and culminating in one of the most adrenaline-infused zombie outings of the 21st century.

While lead protagonist Seok-Woo meets his heartbreaking end in shocking fashion - throwing himself off the train to his death after being infected in the film's nail-biting penultimate sequence - director Yeon Sang-Ho fortunately manages to refrain from killing quite literally everybody aboard the train. Seok Woo's daughter Su-An and the pregnant Seong-Kyeong eventually make it Busan, after being locked in the train's engine room by Seok-Woo moments before his tear-jerking death.

In a final nerve wracking twist, the traumatized duo are nearly mistaken for zombies and gunned down by army snipers as they approach the city. Thankfully for cinema's collective soul, our protagonists are spared this particularly desolating fate after the sound of Su-An's singing identifies the pair as human. While Train to Busan ultimately does feature at least one survivor, to say that it was a close-cut thing would be an understatement of epic proportions.
