10 Greatest Acting Performances In Comic Book Movies
9. Margot Robbie - Harley Quinn
Before you lynch me, I'm going to come right out and say that Suicide Squad is one of the worst comic book movies of the modern age. David Ayer's movie is certainly the most studio-approved comic book picture of recent times, with a script and setup that feels like they were glued together from five different stories and with a lacklustre Jared Leto performance as the Joker to make it look finished. Amid all of the disappointment of this movie, there was at least one silver lining in the shape of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.
In the grand scheme of things, Harleen Quinzel is a newer character to the comics world when compared to her beloved Mr. J, and yet this portrayal feels more road-worn than anything Leto could have offered up in this film. Complete with the trademark squawky voice down to a tee, Robbie eats up every single scene she's in - whether it's trying to play off her villainous boyfriend or just adding some sort of charisma when playing off the ragtag team of villains that Warner Bros. was praying would work.
Despite the more backhanded compliments, Robbie's work in Birds of Prey shows her at least doubling down on her quality performance, proving herself to be one of the most enduring things to come out of the DCEU.
Yeah, Harley might work well when playing off of a team of baddies, but this is a perfect marriage of actor and role that deserves a complete solo movie unto itself.
