10 Greatest Acting Performances In Comic Book Movies

8. Christopher Reeve - Superman

When the first superhero movies were starting to get off the ground, it was hard to see them as anything more than just a novelty. Even though stuff like Adam West's Batman had been entertaining on the small screen, those kind of roles seemed to be suited for comedy rather than anything dramatic or emotionally potent. Just when comic book adaptations were going by the way of 'kid's stuff', Christopher Reeve was one of the first to actually make those heroes work in a truly serious manner.

Is it any wonder why Richard Donner's 1978 Superman is actually a good movie? While there are some more corny moments that have worn over time, Reeve puts every ounce of charisma into his performance as he brings everyone's first favourite superhero to life. Instead of the emotionless and borderline hollow reputation seen in more recent cinematic outings for the Boy Scout, this version of Clark Kent is much more engaging to see as he tries to delicately tip-toe around being both the small-town country boy and Earth's mightiest hero.

With just the right amount of charm put in for good measure, Christopher Reeve is one of those few actors where the layers of pretension fade away when he dons the red and blue tights.

Superman: The Movie was far from just your standard cartoony story anymore. Instead, this was when comic book movies got their first amazing film.
