10 Greatest Acting Performances In Comic Book Movies
7. Hugo Weaving - V
It's no secret that there was a bit of apprehension concerning the creation and eventual release of V for Vendetta in the mid-2000s. Given the intense subject matter of the graphic novel and the more outlandish turns from the mind of Alan Moore, the idea of having a live-action movie centered around a terrorist rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.
Even with the limited role of the titular character, though, Hugo Weaving's portrayal of V might be up there with some of the greatest works he has ever done. That's saying a lot considering this is a man who has to emote with nothing except his voice for the most part.
While you did see V plenty of times throughout the film, the fact that Weaving was able to put in such a performance without even showing his face is something only a true professional can pull off. Though V has been badly burned in the past, the rapport he builds with Natalie Portman's Evey is one of the most natural tales of love ever told in a comic book film.
Aside from the more questionable motives of V's terrorist demands, never once do you stop seeing a character who is aware of how broken he is yet so determined to do what he thinks is right. V might be the least sympathetic character to be ripped from comics, and yet Weaving's voice is so emotional that it made him one of the greatest anti-heroes of the modern age.
