10 Greatest Astronauts In Television History

5. Anthony Vico - Strange New World (1975)

Astronauts - TV - Strange New World Strange New World was a TV pilot based on the concept of a post-apocalyptic Earth designed by Gene Roddenberry. The pilot featured three astronauts who were members of an organization called PAX. The astronauts are cryogenically frozen while the Earth is destroyed by a swarm of asteroids. The astronauts are revived 180 years later and attempt to rescue other frozen PAX members and reestablish civilization on Earth. This was the third pilot based on Roddenberry's PAX vision. The other two incarnations, called Planet Earth and Genesis II, focused on an Earth destroyed by nuclear war. None of the three pilots were ever picked up as a series. This is a perfect example of a series that would have been popular today (such as seen in Defiance), but its imagery and concept were probably ahead of their time.
