10 Greatest Astronauts In Television History

4. Steve Austin - The Six Million Dollar Man (1974-1978)

Astronauts - TV - Six Million Dollar Man Based on the novel Cyborg by Martin Caidin, the Six Million Dollar Man was a vastly popular series in the 1970's. Steve Austin, the titular character, is a former astronaut who is injured while piloting an experimental craft. Several of his body parts are replaced with bionics, making him super strong, super fast, and super sighted. The show has its beginnings in three made-for-TV movies released in 1973. The movies were so well-received by audiences that a weekly series soon followed. The television series was in turn so popular that a spinoff, called the Bionic Woman, was created based on a love-interest character from Steve Austin's past. Several more television movies followed and eventually the Bionic Woman and the Six Million Dollar Man were married.
