Based on Bernard Malamud's novel of the same name, The Natural’s embrace of baseball mythology makes for a great story. The story of Roy Hobbs, played by Robert Redford in the 1984 film adaptation, is a must watch for any baseball fan who loves the sport’s tendency to defy logic through moments of magic and fantasy. Following a shock twist early on in the film, Hobbs eventually gets to showcase his natural ability in the major leagues, defying the odds and many obstacles in the process.

Featuring a fantastic Randy Newman score and strong supporting cast, The Natural was nominated for four Oscars in 1985 and is often considered to be one of the greatest sports films of all time. A powerful and inspiring story that exemplifies all that is beautiful about the sport of baseball.

Best Scene:

The Hobbs home run combined with Randy Newman’s brilliant score and Caleb Deschanel’s cinematography is one of the most visually satisfying moments in film history. The whole film had been building up to that moment and the pay-off was well worth the wait.
