10 Greatest Baseball Films Of All Time
2. A League Of Their Own (1992)
Cementing Penny Marshall’s legacy as one of the greatest filmmakers of her time, A League of Their Own considers a feature of the sport that no other notable baseball film has significantly addressed, the role of women. Chronicling the true story of America’s first professional women’s baseball league, the film is an excellent comedic and sentimental tribute to the trailblazing women that showed they too could play ball.
With an all-star cast featuring Geena Davis, Lori Petty, Madonna and Tom Hanks, the film was a massive commercial success and was recognised for its cultural significance in 2012 when it was inducted by the Library of Congress into the United States National Film Registry.
Best Scene:
Without a doubt, the film's most iconic scene is Tom Hanks’ infamous "There's no crying in baseball" rant. However, in your writer's eyes, the best scene has to be the film's ending where the now retired baseball stars visit their recently opened exhibit at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Just make sure you bring some tissues with you and that Tom Hanks doesn't see you!
