The relationship between a catcher and a pitcher is one of the most under-appreciated in all of sports. In Bull Durham, this relationship is put to the test, as veteran catcher Crash Davis (Kevin Costner) is bought in by the Durham Bulls to prepare young pitcher Ebby ‘The Nuke’ Laloosh (Tim Robbins) for the big leagues. Trouble arises when team groupie Annie (Susan Sarandon) gets involved.

A cult classic amongst baseball fans and an excellent film to get someone into the sport. The film’s quick wit and romantic-comedy elements do not take away from the baseball jargon that has made Bull Durham such a fan favourite. As well as being a commercial hit, the film is often placed highly on both sporting and romantic-comedy lists.

Best Scene:

The mound intervention scene is quite simply one of the funniest moments in any sports film. They were dealing with a lot of s***!

Larry: “Excuse me, but what the hell's going on out here?

Crash: “Well, Nuke's scared because his eyelids are jammed and his old man's here. We need a live... is it a live rooster?”
[Jose nods]
Crash: “We need a live rooster to take the curse off Jose's glove and nobody seems to know what to get Millie or Jimmy for their wedding present. That about right? We're dealing with a lot of s***.”
Larry: “Okay, well... candlesticks always make a nice gift, and uh, maybe you could find out where she's registered and maybe a place-setting or maybe a silverware pattern. Okay, let's get two! Go get ‘em.”

So simple, yet so funny!
