The Planet of the Apes franchise has given us a number of battles since the first titular entry back in 1968, all of which originate with the franchise's core premise: humans and apes can't live in peace.

The franchise saw a reboot in 2011, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, showing the early days of Caesar, the first talking ape. The movie's sequels depicted the shifting dynamic between between apes and humans and the latter's downfall as Earth's predominant species.

The most recent entry in the series - War for the Planet of the Apes - gave us exactly what its title promised.

Warfare between heavily-armed humans and apes on horseback might sound one-sided and fairly exciting, but War for the Planet of the Apes demonstrates perfectly why the apes come out on top of the conflict.

Employing their natural strength, ruthless tactics and superior intelligence, the apes demonstrate exactly how they eventually take control of the planet, and exactly why humanity are doomed to an existence as their slaves.

The battle between the two species is suitably epic, grandiose, and enthralling, and it's one that does its best to do justice to the movie's title.
