10 Greatest Battles In Sci-Fi Movie History
5. Battle Of Sector 001 - Star Trek: First Contact
Star Trek isn't a franchise known for its impressive battle scenes.
The combat depicted in Star Trek, particularly the original series, was once more akin to naval or subnautical warfare, which didn't necessarily make for the most exciting of viewing to the average audience member.
Then, in 1996's Star Trek: First Contact, Picard and crew came up against the Borg as they attempted to assimilate Earth.
With the Federation's forces pitted against the technologically-superior Borg, all hope seems to be lost - but Picard's intimate knowledge of the alien threat gives humanity's forces a glimmer of hope.
An ambitious and impressive space battle ensues, with the Federation scraping a victory by destroying the Borg ship.
A battle of this magnitude is decidedly non-Star Trek, but it came as a welcome surprise, and it was expertly written to be as close to the action Trek fans were used to as possible, leading the franchise into new cinematic territory.
