10 Greatest Body Transformations In Horror Movie History

7. Hairy Surprise! - The Curse Of The Werewolf

American Werewolf in London - transformation
Hammer Film Productions

In the 1961 horror classic Curse of the Werewolf, audiences are subjugated to a frightening transformation that audiences are scarcely over nearly 60 years later. The great Oliver Reed plays Leon, a man with a terrible secret... he is in fact, a wolfman whose true form is revealed when a full moon occurs.

The unforgettable scene in question happens when Leon is in a jail cell and the moonbeams strike him through the metal bars that are imprisoning him. He takes a look at his hands and his palms start to look like fresh coconuts. After a few cutaways so that the crew could apply make-up to the actor, Reed turns to face his fellow prisoner in full wolf glory and scares the bejeebus out of his cellmate and then overcomes to his beastly ways and murders the poor man.

For what was made over 60 years ago, this transformation is unbelievably unnerving and led a path for future filmmakers to take inspiration to create their own sinister modifications on the big screen.
