7. Grenade!!! - First Avenger
Steve Rogers has always been known as having the best moral compass out of the Avengers. Whereas someone like Thor would be more inclined to murder Frost Giants on a whim, Rogers only became Cap because he wanted to fight for those who couldn't fight for themselves. Even before he was the muscular monstrosity we know today, Steve already had his heart in the right place in the First Avenger.
When combing through potential candidates for the super soldier serum, Cap's colonel Chester Phillips is skeptical of Rogers' potential considering how frail and skinny he is. Though things seem to be pretty grim for Rogers to get picked, things turn a corner once the soldiers are given a drill with a dummy grenade. As the team scatters, Rogers is the one who decides to leap on the grenade to shield the blast from everyone around him.
He may just question whether it was a test in the clip, but the fact that this frail kid has the foresight to lay himself down for his fellow man without hesitation speaks much louder than a bunch of muscles ever could. Phillips may still crack that Rogers is a bit too skinny for the job, but for all intents and purposes, they had found their guy.
