6. Til the end of the line - Winter Soldier
It doesn't necessarily take a rocket scientist to figure out the identity of the Winter Soldier in Captain America's second film. Throughout the comics, The Winter Soldier has always been the alias of Bucky Barnes, who Cap saw fall to his "death" at the end of the first film. It might not have been a surprise to us, but the whole idea of his best friend still being alive hits Cap like a ton of bricks.
With the whole movie focused around defeating HYDRA from infiltrating all of SHIELD, Steve is dealt a bum hand when the only thing standing in between him and his mission is his best friend.
Though he ends up finding a way to subdue Bucky long enough to carry out the plan, he is put through the ringer as the aircraft he's in begins to crash. While wounded, Cap attempts to save his friend from death and HYDRA's brainwashing, but Barnes proceeds to wail on him as the destruction unfolds.
Just when you think the end is near, Cap echoes "I'm with you til the end of the line," which snaps Bucky out of his stupor enough to actually save Steve from drowning in the river below. There may have been some torture in Bucky's travels, but Steve's bond with his old friend is enough to weather a thousand more brainwashings.
