9. Skyfall - James Bond Arrives At A Macau Casino
The all-conquering Skyfall was filled with memorable Bond moments. The brawl in a skyscraper lit by neon advertising signs, the train-top fight and of course the final flaming finale. However for me the most jaw-dropping moment wasnt an exhilarating g action sequence but a serene moment of calm amidst the chaos as James arrives at an exclusive Macau casino. Much has been made of how Skyfall has pushed the Bond film on and, even more so than Casino Royale, brought the franchise into the 21st Century. For me, this is typified by the elegant beauty of this scene as a tux wearing Bond arrives by boat as fireworks explode in the night sky and crisp and warm yellow and red lanterns and Chinese dragons light up the route into the casino. Its a shot that one wouldnt have expected to find in a regular Bond film pre-Casino Royale but with Sam Mendes at the helm and the excellent Roger Deakins handling cinematography its a sequence which befits such a captivating and dramatic thriller that broke the traditional Bond mould.
