10 Greatest Cinematic Moments Of 2012

6. Killer Joe - The KFC Incident

While not exactly a spoiler in terms of plot or narrative, I€™d still advise anyone who hasn€™t seen Killer Joe to skip this section real quick as it is all the more shocking if you don€™t know exactly what is coming. Matthew McConaughey plays against type as the sadistic and menacing Joe, a steely eyed hired gun in William Friedkin€™s aptly taglined €œtotally twisted deep-fried Texas redneck trailer park murder story€. It really is a grubby and grimy movie with a cast of rough and fairly unlikeable characters all round. Joe has been hired by a family to kill their mother in order for them to claim the insurance. For one reason or another, the plans go awry, but Joe upholds his end of the bargain and expects to get his payment as promised. When he begins to suspect Gina Gershon€™s step-mum of planning a double cross of her own, he decides to teach her a lesson in the middle of the family€™s fried chicken dinner. In an unsettling and shocking sequence, Joe forces Gershon€™s Sharla down onto her knees and despite her teary protests, implores her to perform a spot of filatio on a piece of friend chicken he holds at his crotch. As Joe becomes more aroused and his rage intensifies even further, the shocked and disgusted look on Thomas Haden Church€™s face sums up the audiences feelings perfectly. It€™s a disturbing and nasty little scene and one which will linger with you long in the memory.
