10 Greatest Dad Jokes In Movie History

9. The Muppet Movie - Drinks On The House

If you ask any dad who their favourite Muppet is it'll be a 50/50 split between Statler and Waldorf (I'm counting them as one) and the king of the dad joke - Fozzie Bear.

Fozzie (voiced by Frank Oz) has been cracking the ultimate dad jokes since the 70s and has continued to make us groan, roll our eyes and let out a little chuckle over almost 50 years and 10 feature films. Although there is a mountain of Fozzie Bear dad jokes to choose from, this particular pun from The Muppet Movie (1979) made the cut.

This musical road comedy film is a Muppets origin story of how the gang all met. Kermit sets off to make it big in Hollywood and on his travels he meets the struggling stand up comedian - Fozzie Bear. In this scene, Fozzie is bombing in front of a rowdy crowd at the El Sleezo Cafe. When a fight erupts, Fozzie manages to distract the brawlers by announcing that drinks were on the house.

The clueless punters take that phrase very literally and proceed to head to the roof of the bar in search for drinks. A painful dad joke to be sure, but a welcome one.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
